The City Secretary has several functional areas of responsibility:
City Council/Administrative
- Composes, posts and distributes agendas, packets and minutes for City Council meetings and other meetings as required
- Provides administrative support to City Administrator, City Council and other City boards, committee and commission meetings
- Ensures the Texas Local Government Code is properly implemented
- Researches legislative and legal subjects
- Drafts, attest, certify and seal City documents and records
Boards and Commissions
- Coordinates the appointment and training of municipal officers to boards, committees and commissions
- Provides training on the Public Information Act and Open Meetings Act
Records Management
- Maintains official records for the City including:
- Agendas
- Minutes
- Ordinances
- Resolutions
- Proclamations
- Legal Notices
- Contracts
- Oversees the codification and publication of City ordinances
Public Information
- Coordinates the City's response/s to open records requests under the Texas Public Information Act
Elections
- Serves as the Election Coordinator for the City's May election(s) each year
Other duties performed
- Provide support to other city departments
- Provide assistance to the public
- Prepare ceremonial items
- Administers Oath of Office
- Attest contracts and other legal instruments
