City Secretary 

The City Secretary has several functional areas of responsibility:

City Council/Administrative

  • Composes, posts and distributes agendas, packets and minutes for City Council meetings and other meetings as required
  • Provides administrative support to City Administrator, City Council and other City boards, committee and commission meetings
  • Ensures the Texas Local Government Code is properly implemented
  • Researches legislative and legal subjects
  • Drafts, attest, certify and seal City documents and records

Boards and Commissions

  • Coordinates the appointment and training of municipal officers to boards, committees and commissions
  • Provides training on the Public Information Act and Open Meetings Act

Records Management

  • Maintains official records for the City including:
    • Agendas
    • Minutes
    • Ordinances
    • Resolutions
    • Proclamations
    • Legal Notices
    • Contracts
  • Oversees the codification and publication of City ordinances

Public Information

  • Coordinates the City's response/s to open records requests under the Texas Public Information Act

Elections

  • Serves as the Election Coordinator for the City's May election(s) each year

Other duties performed

  • Provide support to other city departments
  • Provide assistance to the public
  • Prepare ceremonial items
  • Administers Oath of Office
  • Attest contracts and other legal instruments
